How To Use The Adamantine Forge In BG3

Finding the legendary Adamantine Forge is one of the ultimate milestones during your exploration of the Underdark in Baldurs Gate 3. This ancient structure allows players to craft exceptionally powerful gear that can easily carry a party through the challenges of Act 2. However, operating this massive machinery requires strict attention to detail and preparation for a dangerous boss encounter.
Gathering the Required Materials
Before you can activate the forge, you must explore the surrounding Grymforge area to gather two essential components. You will need to locate specific item moulds scattered across the wooden walkways and hidden chambers of the dark fortress. Additionally, you must mine a blue glowing deposit known as Mithral Ore, which serves as the raw material for your new equipment.
There are six distinct moulds available, allowing you to create weapons, shields, or sturdy pieces of armor. Choosing what to make requires careful planning since the available ore veins are strictly limited in number. Ensure your party has cleared nearby enemies so you can harvest these rare rocks without unnecessary interruptions.
Loading the Forge Mechanisms
Once you arrive at the central platform, you will notice a complex layout consisting of several interactive levers and containers. First, approach the rectangular mold chamber on the right side and insert your chosen equipment blueprint into the slot. Next, click on the large circular crucible located directly in the center of the platform to load your chunk of ore.
After both materials are securely placed, walk over to the main control lever on the far side to lower the entire platform into the deep basin. This dramatic physical shift prepares the structure for the final phase of the crafting process. Make sure your companions are positioned strategically around the perimeter before proceeding further.
Managing the Lava Valve and the Guardian
The final step in releasing your forged item involves turning the massive lava valve on the edge of the platform to flood the floor channels. Doing this will immediately trigger the arrival of Grym, a towering automaton designed to protect the ancient structure from intruders. This formidable boss is completely immune to regular damage unless he is standing directly within the superheated lava pools.
To defeat this protector efficiently, you must lure him into the center of the arena under the giant mechanical hammer. Pulling the main forge lever while Grym is positioned on the central crucible will deal massive bludgeoning damage to his metallic shell. Repeat this environmental hazard trap while maintaining the flow of lava to successfully secure your legendary rewards.
